Ahead of the game, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard faced the press. The boss provided updates on injured Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic: “We had an in-house game which Christian and Loftus-Cheek played. I just watched it and they are trying to find match fitness.” On Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi, he added: “I hope so, he’s not training with us yet. Hudson-Odoi had a re-injury and is having a scan later today. It’s tough for him. He wasn’t rushed back. He did it training back with us. It’s another injury for us. It hasn’t been spoken about it that much. We have had the worst injury list. We are working.” The latest injured players are Mateo Kovacic and Willian: “Kovacic not fit and Willian we will assess him, he is a question mark for the weekend.” Lampard was asked about Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti: “A very good one. Very well respected in house and the fans. He is a gentleman, fantastic manager. It was a good season under him. A great man manager. On a personal level, great at striking up relationships. Good tactically and great manner. I kept in touch with him now and again.” When asked if he was surprised Ancelotti got sacked in the second season, Lampard answered: “Not surprised, this is football and these things happen.” It has been reported that  Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud wants to stay in the summer when asked about the matter, Lampard said: “I’m not jumping ahead to the summer.
