Pochettino's surprising plans for Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper revealed

Mauricio Pochettino's appointment as Chelsea's new manager has influenced the club's transfer plans as he intends to make Kepa Arrizabalaga the first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

The Argentine coach, who commences his duties in July, expressed his admiration for the 28-year-old's improved performances and aims to further develop the Spaniard with the assistance of goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez. In the past few months, the talks have added to the rumors that both Chelsea goalkeepers will be replaced at Stamford Bridge. However, recent news about Edouard Mendy's possible move to Saudi Arabia makes him the only keeper to leave the Blues this summer.

Previously having Andre Onana as their main target, Chelsea have left the race after Manchester United became the Cameroonian's frontrunners. Chelsea's wish list for a keeper included Robert Sanchez, Mike Maignan, Diogo Costa and David Raya too, but it remains unclear whether those professionals would wish to join the English side for the position of second-choice goalkeeper.

Incoming manager Pochettino's side will now focus on finding a competent backup shot-stopper who can provide competition for Kepa. One potential option on their shortlist is Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
