Incoming Chelsea manager Pochettino has received a blow to his plans at Stamford Bridge following an injury setback in the club’s defense.
Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile is expected to miss the beginning of next season due to a groin injury. Last week, the skilled France international picked up an injury and was set to undergo surgery which could potentially keep him off the pitch for four months, reports the Evening Standard.
The absence of Badiashile at the beginning of Pochettino's tenure at Stamford Bridge is seen as a setback for him, as he is currently in the process of finalizing his appointment and considers the pre-season period crucial for introducing his methods and philosophy to the team.
The 22-year-old joined Chelsea in January for a transfer fee of £35 million from Monaco, and has made a promising start to his Blue journey, aiming for a significant role in the team for the upcoming season.
Interim coach Frank Lampard opted not to include Badiashile in their Champions League squad, prioritizing players who are eligible for European competition. This tactic put Badiashile behind Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana in the pecking order.
Despite this, the youngster has made a positive impression whenever given a chance to play and is highly regarded as a key player for Chelsea's future. Goven Badiashile's injury, an opportunity may arise for Levi Colwill, who is set to return to Chelsea next season after an impressive loan spell at Brighton during the current campaign.
