Pep Guardiola's answer on whether they would sign Cristiano Ronaldo if Manchester United didn't

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has opened up on Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer after the Portuguese star's official move to Manchester United. Citizens have been linked with the 36-year-old after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner revealed his wish to leave Juventus. The negotiations between City and the Serie A side didn't give any results, with Ronaldo finally joining his former side. A few days after the official transfer announcement, Guardiola was asked whether they would have signed former Real Madrid star, to which City boss replied: “Ehm… I don’t think so.” The Sky Blues were heavily linked with the move for Tottenham's Harry Kane for the summer transfer window in search of Sergio Aguero's replacement at Etihad. However, it seems that the team would rely on Gabriel Jesus as well as the young Ferran Torres at this moment as the transfer window closes on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 11pm BST.
