Manchester City celebrated 6-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, January 12.
After the game, the City head coach Pep Guardiola spoke out on the title race, as currently the Citizens are second in the league table with 14 points behind league leaders, who have a game in hand.
Guardiola said: "Forget about it [top spot]. We would have liked to fight against them [Liverpool], but for many reasons we could not.
"Tonight, we go to sleep second in the table and one step closer to qualifying for the Champions League next season."
While City celebrated a victory, Liverpool also collected three points as they beat Tottenham with a 1-0 score on Saturday.
