Pep Guardiola on why he did not rest key men of Burnley tie

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has explained his decision not to rest several key players in his side's Carabao Cup fourth-round win over Burnley. A brace from Raheem Sterling and the first goal for summer signing Ferran Torres saw the Citizens book a quarter-final place and bounced back from their 5-2 defeat to Leicester on Sunday. Guardiola started the likes of Sterling, Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy and Riyad Mahrez, who were all in the starting XI for last weekend's thrashing by the Foxes. Speaking after the win over the Clarets, Guardiola admitted his team selection was partly in a response to the Leicester defeat. "It was for the rhythm, and because these players wanted to play," he explained. "[The response to Sunday] was good. This competition is special to us and there is just two games - this one and Leeds on Saturday - before the international break. After our result [on Sunday], it was important today."
