Pep Guardiola makes surprise Manchester City resignation claim

Pep Guardiola has claimed that he will “step aside” from Manchester City if he’s a “problem” for the fans. The Cityzens boss faced backlash after urging more fans to attend Saturday’s home fixture against Southampton, having witnessed just over 38,000 supporters turn out for their first European match of the campaign. The City Official Supporters Club general secretary Kevin Parker asked Guardiola to ‘stick to coaching’ and be more considerate of the financial problems facing fans on the back of the pandemic. And Guardiola says he would never question the loyalty of City fans but added that if he’s a “problem” for them he will “step aside”.
“I am entirely grateful for the support that we had against Leipzig.   “I always say if guys want to come we will be incredibly grateful because I know how difficult the game will be and I know we need our people.   “I never sit here and ask why people don’t come. If you can’t come then don’t.   “This is a big mistake. We are who we are, we are proud of who we are. I know the history, I’ve learned the history of this club from the lower divisions what it means to travel and follow the club. I respect that.   “I don’t want to be like United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, like Madrid or like all the big clubs. We are who we are. I like it.   “Don’t put some words in my mouth that I didn’t say. And If I’m a big, big problem… I will never be a problem for my fans, never ever.   “If I’m a problem for my fans I will make a step aside, it’s not a problem for me. But I am one of them. Since day one I tried to do my best, that’s for sure.”
