Paul Scholes concerned 'timid' Manchester United star is becoming a 'problem'

Paul Scholes is concerned by Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. The Manchester United legend was frustrated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s acceptable backline in the 3-3 draw against Everton. Scholes feels his former Manchester United team-mate is losing his ‘presence’ and suspects he has lost belief in his abilities. De Gea has kept eight clean sheets in 21 Premier League matches. "I think the goalkeeper could be becoming a bit of a problem," Scholes told Premier League Productions. "He’s made one definite mistake [vs Everton]. The second one where he wasn’t brave, he didn’t really get in the face of Calvert-Lewin, he almost jumped out the way and made it a little bit easier for him than it should have been. "He possibly wouldn’t have saved it anyway but at least try, at least show a bit of braveness about it. Is that presence gone about him? He added: ‘When I was playing with him, he used to save you points. "You hope he doesn’t have to make a lot of saves but you think if other teams create chances, he’s going to make saves. I think that belief is going a little bit. He looks a little bit timid, he looks like he’s losing his presence a little bit and that could become a problem."
