Twitter account VillaTillIDie has asked fans to choose a player they want to be sold, or at least to be sent on loan.
There have been some ridiculous answers. Some mentioned Jack Grealish and John McGinn, other Tyrone Mings and Henry Lansburry, but Jota was the one, whose name appeared most in comments.
José Ignacio Peleteiro Ramallo, Jota has joined the Lions from rivals Birmingham before the start of 2019/20 campaign. Villa paid €5 mln for the Spaniard.
The 28-year-old midfielder, however, failed to make an impact at Villa Park, registering only 1 assist in 8 Premier League appearances (4 from the bench).
His current market value is €3.50 mln according to Transfermarkt.
Earlier, former Aston Villa player Alan Hutton said the club won’t offer Jota a new deal, as the player lacks consistency on the pitch.
“The problem with the wide players at Villa is that they have been too inconsistent. In flashes, you have seen Trezegeut, El Ghazi and sometimes Jota. They are good players but they have not done it enough.” Hutton told the Football Insider.
“I played against Jota when he was at Birmingham. Technically gifted and a very good player but he has not managed to be consistent enough.
He added: “Going into the last year of his contract it is a question of how much he wants a new deal. Is he showing enough in training? Does he warrant a start? And when you get that start you need to show why you are there.
“It is a step up from the Championship to the Premiership. He will take time to adapt but if he wants to stay there he will have to adapt quickly.” Hutton added.
