One surprising change Unai Emery has made to revolutionize Arsenal’s season

Two years ago Arsenal were in the midst of their worst spell under Arsene Wenger, losing to Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion in the league and suffering a second 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich. The impact has been dramatic. Privately many at Arsenal would admit that on a purely fitness level the squad had fallen off the pace in the final years of Wenger's reign. Training was not intense enough, the demands on players were easily met and many had become reliant on physios. Expectations have changed dramatically under Emery, as started to have fitness levels. Players who had once been slight - Alex Iwobi, Hector Bellerin before his injury - were suddenly imposing. As his rival managers question their crowded fixture lists - Arsenal face Manchester United in between their two Europa League legs against Rennes - Emery is insistent that he will not use it as an excuse. "It’s not an excuse for us," he said. "We have the habit to play a lot of matches week by week. "We played Saturday, rested Sunday and started to work on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I think we are going to be OK to play every player. "For us it’s a very important match and we need to do [our job] individually and collectively."
