Ole Gunnar-Solskjaer speaks out on PSG ahead of the Champions League clash: Press Conference

UEFA Champions League action kicks off on Tuesday night with the eagerly-awaited first leg clash between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford. Ahead of the game, Manchester United interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has faced the press. Solskjaer says he’s been delighted with his players taking things one game at a time - and he expects the same approach against Paris Saint-Germain tomorrow night. “We’re going to play against some top teams, but our focus now is just in this next task. We don’t look too far ahead because then you lose your focus. We’re looking forward to this. Now it’s just a focus on this one. It’s always been like that. It’s been one of the biggest pluses that the players have stayed focused on the next task.” On PSG “It’s been fantastic to see their progress in the last years. I played against them for Molde in 95 and the transition has been amazing. Buffon and Silva have been two of the best players in the world. They have Mbappe and Neymar. We know we’re playing against a team with confidence because they’re used to winning.” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer staying tight-lipped on his long-term future. “Yes, it is too simple (to stay). You have so many ways of asking those questions. It is too simple, there are a few months left of this season. There are still a few more months left of this season, to do whatever I can for the club.” Solskjaer on PSG absences “Of course any team which are missing players like Meunier or Cavani are feeling the effect. But it will give their other players a chance. It makes it more unpredictable for us, this time around we are guessing a bit how they are going to come.” On what he took from PSG “I think it's difficult to compare games, because when they play in the league, they know they’re going to win the league anyway, so they maybe approach games differently to the Champions League. It’s always nice to see players live because you get a different impression on television. You see space, different things, different patterns. You saw how lightning quick Mbappe was! You just go and watch an opponent, but it’s difficult to say.” Was this match a reason for taking the job? “No, but I would have said yes to the job if we didn’t play PSG or in Champions League. When United ring you take the chance and you think you can help them. Of course, its fantastic game to look forward to, a test for our whole team.” On watching the draw two days before taking the job “Of course I didn’t know I was watching with Noah (his son). I said wow a tough challenge. We have given ourselves a good chance with the way we have gone into the game. We are confident and found out what team I have. We are looking like a team, we are agreeing on how we should approach games if there was ever a chance to go into a big game like this it’s now.” Any concerns about use of VAR? “No, VAR has been part of football lately. Players are getting used to it, players have seen it in the FA Cup. It is a good thing if it is clear and obvious, for me I like the discussion the day after. It is not going to be an issue, I hope.” Solskjaer on previous results “I have loved every single minute of it. We knew we had a big challenge because we were far behind in the league. Confidence was low after Liverpool and they have responded fantastically. I don’t think we could be in a better frame of mind with confidence and form, really looking forward to the games coming up.” Solskjaer asked if United can go all the way to the final of the Champions League... “I think the squad is very capable of winning against anyone and we go in to games confident in our form. We are looking forward to the game but you can’t look to far ahead. We just have to look at PSG and take the next challenge as it comes. Been pleased with the attitude and if we keep working every day, we can improve and maybe surprise a few.”
