Novak Djokovic ‘collecting signatures and threatening a boycott’ in support of axed players

Novak Djokovic is attempting to have Guido Pella and Hugo Dellien returned to the Western & Southern Masters, according to a report in Spain. The duo were withdrawn from the tournament by officials after their physio tested positive for coronavirus inside the ‘bubble’ in New York. They have now been told to self-isolate despite them returning negative test results themselves. Marca reports the players are not happy with the situation, with Novak Djokovic, in his role as chairman of the Players Council, ‘collecting signatures’ to present a petition to the USTA. Marca claim players are willing to go as far as holding a full boycott of the tournament in support of Pella and Dellien. Pella himself has explained that the reason for their withdrawal was because he shared a room with his physio, who has tested positive for coronavirus. Source: Tennishead
