"Not having them around is a nice relief," admits ATP star on Federer, Nadal and Djokovic

ATP star Lorenzo Sonego described Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic as “phenomena”. The Miami Open was the first Masters 1000 event without any of the ‘Big Three’ present since the 2004 Paris Masters. “Phenomena don’t miss a tournament, so not having them around, let’s say it’s a nice relief,” Sonego told La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked about the absence of Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, and Dominic Thiem in Miami. “A bit like when as a child you can have your home free to celebrate.” The 25-year-old Italian was also asked who he sees as the ‘new leader’ of the ATP circuit after the ‘Big Three’. “I would say Medvedev: he has already overtaken Federer and Nadal, among the new players he is certainly the strongest and the most continuous,” Sonego answered.
