"Next few weeks might see some movement": Simon Hughes gives update on Timo Werner to Liverpool transfer talks

The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent Simon Hughes has revealed RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner "really wants to move" to Anfield, per The Red Agenda podcast. The 23-year-old has joined the German side in the summer of 2016. This term he has scored 27 goals and assisted 11 times in 34 appearances through all competitions. The Reds have long been linked with the move of the German forward this summer. And Hughes expects a breakthrough in negotiations in the coming weeks, with Werner also having the desire to join Jurgen Klopp's side. He said: "He really wants to move to Liverpool. It looks like the next few weeks might see some movement. They’re going to be trying to do things a little quieter. He’s desperate to play for Liverpool." As Athletic claims, Liverpool have until an unspecified date in April to activate a clause in his contract that allows them to sign him for £51m.
