Will Petrovic beat Sanchez as Chelsea's first choice keeper?

Last season, Djordje Petrovic has been delivering excellent performances for Chelsea following Robert Sanchez's injury. Ever since, the question has risen whether the Serbian keeper will give the floor back to his Spanish teammate upon his return or no?

While in some of the Blues' latest clashes Sanchez has been featuring as the goalkeeper, recent signing Filip Jorgensen was a necessary addition to the Blues' squad as they were not completely satisfied with their goalkeeping choices.

The Serbian goalkeeper has earned his starting position at Stamford Bridge, showcasing his abilities. While Robert Sanchez's distribution remains an asset, Petrovic's under-the-radar move to Chelsea in August has turned out to be significant.

However, the main competition in the goalkeepeing department for the Chelsea players is going to be between Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen in the 2024/25 season, as Djordje Petrovic has completed a season-long loan move to Strasbourg FC.

Petrovichad an impressive save success rate of 73.9% (ranking third among goalkeepers with at least five Premier League appearances) and an average of 3.4 saves per 90 minutes as per the Guardian, suggest he deserves to maintain his starting position.

In comparison, Sánchez has a save success rate of 67.1% from 3.3 saves per 90 minutes, indicating a notable difference that supports Petrovic's continued inclusion in the side.

“Djordje does remind me of Petr, actually. Petr (Cech) was a fantastic goalkeeper and he won a lot of games for Chelsea. Without a shadow of a doubt, Djordje can be a really top goalkeeper for a long time as well.” said Hitchock, a goalkeeper coach at New England Revolution, where Petrovic worked for 16 months.

There are now rumours that Chelsea are willing to hear offers for Robert Sanchez. The offload is expected to take place in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Transfer News

Despite the competition between the Blues' two primary goalkeeping choices, there are now rumors from BILD, that Chelsea are competing with Arsenal and Manchester United for Diant Ramaj's signature.

The Blues are apparently not satisfied with Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic and would be interested to bring a new goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge. Previously, they have been linked with Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale, as per Daily Mail.

Petrovic, however, completed a season-long-move to Strasbourg FC for the 2024/25 campaign.

Eventually Enzo Maresca's side completed the signing of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal who made his debut on July 21, featuring in Chelsea's pre-season friendly match against Club America.
