Hugo Lloris has sent a warning to his teammates Tottenham following the start of World Cup 2022 next month.
The French international insists they need to get the points and to be in a 'good position' before heading to Qatar in November.
Spurs celebrated a 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday in the Champions League group stage.
However, after collecting three important points against Brighton with a narrow 0-1 win last weekend, Antonio Conte's side sit third in the domestic league.
The Lilywhites currently have 20 points in their pocket, with a three-point difference to City, following their six wins, two draws and a draw so far.
Speaking via Daily Mail, the 35-year-old goalkeeper admitted the clubs should learn to control matches better for a better result.
"At the end, what we all want is to go to the next round. I would say it doesn't matter the way we do it, you just want to get the points and to be in a good position before the World Cup, in the Premier League and every competition in which we're involved.
"We know that to arrive at this level we need to perform well. We're capable of performing well but we're still looking for improvement.
"But let's say that being in a good position before the World Cup will give the right feeling in the second half of the season, which will be the most important thing."
