Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has banned his players from shaking hands over coronavirus fears following advice from club doctor Paul Catterson.
China has reported 77,658 cases and 2,663 deaths following the outbreak of the virus.
Four Serie A matches were postponed over the weekend, while Inter Milan’s Europa League clash against Ludogorets played behind closed doors.
Newcastle doctor Catterson provided advise that players should minimize physical contact.
Steve Bruce said: “
There is a shaking hands ritual here, every one shakes hands with each other when we see each other in the morning. We have stopped that on the back of the virus.
“Let's hope it doesn't get any worse. We are like everyone else, glued to the TV seeing what happens next. We are mindful of bugs sweeping through.”
Newcastle United will face Burnley on Saturday, February 29 in the Premier League clash.
