Nathan Ake sends message to Man City as Netherlands boss gives injury update

Nathan Ake has described his injury as 'frustrating' after the Manchester City defender played just six minutes of the Netherlands' friendly against Spain. Ake up an early hamstring injury and had to be replaced in the opening stages. The player has pledged to be back in action soon, taking to social media after the game to say: "Frustrating night! Hope to be back soon!" Netherlands boss Frank De Boer has confirmed Ake will return to City, where the extent of his injury will be assessed. “Nathan is going back to Manchester," De Boer said, before later calling up Lille's Sven Botman as a replacement. De Boer used Ake's injury as an example to show why the Spain friendly was unnecessary, adding: "I don't think this game needed to be played. Money is very important but we also need to look after our players "All interested parties need to sit down and talk because the health of our players is important. We all agree about that, and decisions need to be made."
