Mikey Garcia has expressed a desire to meet Manny Pacqiao after beating Jessie Vargas in Las-Vegas to become world champion in 5 divisions.
The Filipino legend has earlier expressed interest to meet Garcia, but the latest’ defeat to Errol Spence created an obstacle for the possible fight.
Now, Garcia – Pacquiao is more possible due to Mikey’s win over Vargas by unanimous decision (116-111, 116-111, 114-113).
“I would love to get in the ring with Manny. You know, it’s a fight that’s been mentioned and talked about for several years. And now that I have a win in the welterweight division, people can actually consider me a viable contender. And it’s been talked about for several years, so with this victory, it’s more accessible. And I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. He’s a living legend. I would love to share that ring with him.” Garcia said after the fight (via Boxingscene).
“He’s a living legend. It would be tremendous. It would be a great name to my legacy, you know, getting in the ring with an all-time great. It’s not that often that you possibly have an opportunity to fight an all-time great. And also, for me to get in that ring with Manny, it would be just amazing. I think I can definitely show everybody that, you know, even though he looked great. I can take him out and show that I’m just as great. And I need that opportunity. I need to get in the ring (with Pacquiao).” Garcia added.
