Max Verstappen’s sensational win in Barcelona after joining Red Bull

Max Verstappen wins Barcelona Grand-Prix

Spanish Grand-Prix in Formula 1 was a clash between Red Bull Racing and Ferrari, with Max Verstappen becoming the youngest driver to win a Grand-Prix ever. This was his very first race with Red Bull and he managed to keep Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari behind.

However, everything started during the first lap. Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton dramatically left the race. Rosberg got the jump on polesitter Hamilton into Turn 1, but his team mate got a much better run out of Turn 3. As the world champion went for the inside line into Turn 4, he ran out of room as Rosberg defended and got a wheel on the grass. Hamilton was pitched into a spin and collected Rosberg in the process, sending both men into the gravel where they found themselves beached and out of the race. Stewards are still investigating this accident as Mercedes banned both drivers from speaking to the press.

This accident was a good chance for Ferrari and Red Bull to cut the point gap with Mercedes. Surprisingly, it was Max Verstappen who took the leadership and led the race, despite his teammate Daniel Ricciardo’s experience and Kimi Raikkonen’s pressure.

Ricciardo, by his side, fought with Sebastian Vettel for the podium place. At one moment it seemed that both Raikkonen and Ricciardo will manage to takeover Max and Sebastian respectively. Nevertheless, the Australian’s left-rear tyre gave up with a lap to go, but he was lucky enough to pit for a replacement and retain fourth place.

Verstappen managed to keep his lead and finished some 0.616 seconds ahead of the Finn, becoming the youngest ever driver to win a Grand-Prix. He is just 18 years old.
