Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino helped Lucas Torreira avoid further punishment by talking him out of confronting the match officials after his red card in Saturday’s north London derby.
The Uruguayan midfielder looked to win the ball originally before his follow through caught Rose on the shin.
By the letter of the law the Arsenal man had to go, but it was clear from his reaction there was no malicious intent.
Torreira waited in the tunnel to speak with referee Anthony Taylor but Pochettino intervened and warned him against making the situation worse.
In his post-match press conference Pochettino revealed that he was “only saying hello and how are you” but in fact his intervention may have stopped Torreira from an even longer ban.
