Mason Mount explains thinking behind the Chelsea tactical switch that outfoxed Mourinho

Chelsea beat Tottenham with a 2-0 score, thanks to a brace from Willian. Frank Lampard decided that the best way to negate Tottenham’s strengths would be to switch to 3-4-3 system. Mason Mount said that the character and determination shown by the Blues was key to their victory, Lampard’s decision to use a back three for the first time since October was an inspired piece of thinking. “It clicked together well,” Mount said after Sunday’s 2-0 win. “We had been working on it a little bit. We knew where to be in terms of positions and where to be off the ball. “That’s the important thing with a change of formation, everyone needs to know where to be and how to press and how to work off the ball because we came up against a team that was good on the ball. “They had to go longer sometimes and we had to get back in and work that second ball. It was a brilliant game and that worked. “We’ve done it a couple of times this season [playing with a back three]. Lille away we did it. It’s worked a couple of times for us. You saw how well it worked. How tight we were as a team and we worked well as a unit.”  Source- Football.london Join us on Telegram!
