Manchester United have been linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
According to the Mail, the Red Devils hold an interest for the 23-year-old who spent the second half of the 2020/21 season at West Bromwich Albion under Sam Allardyce.
Speaking about his future to the Telegraph, Maitland-Niles confirmed that he would be prepared to part company with his boyhood club if he doesn’t figure into Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season.
“I’ve heard they want to make some space [in the squad] and some money so I’m not sure,” he said. “I want a decision. I want some clarity. And then hopefully I can get to work with whoever I need to get to work with.
“Whether that is finding a new club or whether that is carrying on with my training. I would like some kind of indication of what is happening.
“Where they [Arsenal] see me. If it works out it works out, if it doesn’t then kiss Arsenal goodbye. It’s been a long journey but a proud one at that.”
However, if Maitland-Niles does end up making the shock move to Old Trafford he would become teammates with Paul Pogba, who has already delivered his verdict on his potential future teammate.
By the end of the 2017/18 season, when the Gunners were beaten 2-1 by Man United, Maitland-Niles and Pogba embraced at the full-time whistle.
“He said to me that I need to keep working hard,” Maitland-Niles told Sky Sports following the match. “He enjoyed playing against me and that was it really.
“He just told me to keep going and gave me some words of advice which was nice.”
