Manchester United worrying statistics in numbers proving Mourinho should head to an exit door

In his speech following Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City manager Jose Mourinho mentioned that statistics do not provide a definite analysis of a football match. He argued that United’s loss was a result of individual mistakes, rather than a poor collective. Mourinho said: “I think we are not going to be relegated. So, when I analyse the game today, I think the difference was, you can go for stats. That’s the way people that don’t understand football analyse football, is with stats.” However, it’s impossible to bypass the worrying statistics as it’s something United haven’t faced for 40 years. Mourinho’s guidance has a negative goal difference (-1) after 12 games in a domestic season. This is the first time that Manchester United have conceded more than they’ve scored at this stage of a league campaign in 40 years. United have already let in 21 goals. That record is worse than any other team in the top half, three more than City, Liverpool and Chelsea have conceded combined and only worsened by Fulham (31), Cardiff (25), Burnley (25) and Huddersfield (22), all of whom have suffered badly at the hands of Aguero, Sterling and co themselves. Another damning statistic is that Fulham – genuine contenders to be the leakiest Premier League team of all-time – are the only side to have kept fewer clean sheets than United with none. After the tough footballing lesson from Manchester City Mourinho’s sode now sit eighth in the league and with a goal difference of minus one - one of their worst starts to a league campaign in over 30 years.

Statistic that proves Phil Foden played better than Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku combined in derby
