Manchester United urged to 'get rid' of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after failing to improve from last year

Manchester United have not improved from last season and only finished in the Premier League top four because other teams dropped off, according to Craig Burley. ESPN FC pundit Burley has noted how United won the same amount of points this term as they did in their previous campaign. The ex-Scotland international has not changed his mind from earlier in the season that United would be better off replacing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Victory over Leicester City on Sunday confirmed a third-placed finish for United. Burley does not think United's position in the table should be celebrated due to their points tally not exceeding what they achieved last season. "They had the same amount of points, 66, as they had the season before when Solskjaer had six months in the job," Burley said. "Tottenham were hopeless, Arsenal were hopeless and Chelsea struggled because of their squad. On top of that we had little old Leicester, who hung about for a long, long time but the injuries caught up with them in the end. But hey, let's throw a party because Manchester United finished third, a country mile behind the top two." ESPN presenter Dan Thomas then noted how Burley previously stated how United should "get rid" of Solskjaer. Burley responded by saying he still holds the same view that United should change their manager if they want to reach another level. "And why would that not change? Why would that not change?" Burley said. "He's got the same amount of points as last year. [United got top four] because others regressed, others regressed. Tottenham imploded, Arsenal were hopeless, Chelsea had their hands tied behind their back and still made it into the top four. "They haven't super-exceeded expectations, Manchester United. They've got the same amount of points as last year, how many times do I need to say that? He has got to prove that he has the tactical nouse to sit there and take on the best managers in the league and close that huge gap at the top. I'm sorry, you pretty much did the same as last year, just with a little bit more swagger at the end." Source: Express
