Manchester United to compensate fans, as LASK Linz tie is played behind closed doors

Manchester United will reimburse fans, as tonight’s Europa League tie will be played behind closed doors. United have announced they will pay £350 to 700 fans who bought tickets through the club for tonight’s away tie at LASK Linz in Austria. In total United are paying out £245,000 in compensation, with the club eager to acknowledge the financial hit fans have taken, with the LASK stadium closed to fans because of the escalating coronavirus pandemic. Payments will be made automatically to the cards that were used by supporters to purchase their tickets, within the next five days. Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he will support any decision to curtail the Premier League season amid the coronavirus outbreak. “I would understand, yes, under the circumstances," he said. “It's up to the experts to decide and the main concern must be the health of the general public and the decision that is made, we will back. “We don't know what's going to happen, we just have to get on with it when we can. “Football is for fans. Without fans, we are nothing, so the game should always be for them. But we are going to have to create our own atmosphere, within the team and the game. “The boys are used to training with no spectators, and we do have some behind closed door friendlies at times, so I have no doubt my players are ready to perform. “But of course it will be change. It will make for a strange atmosphere, but we're just going to make the most of it.” Source- Mirror
