Manchester United 'set for transfer battle with Liverpool' over £45m defensive target

Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Real Betis defender Junior Firpo. Red Devils prepare to do battle with Liverpool for his signature. Betis are willing to let the 22-year-old leave providing his £45 million release clause is met. The player has previously talked down a move away from Betis, although did hint that there was one club he could favour a move to, but it wasn't to the Premier League. "I have said that Real Madrid was more attractive to me because my father is from Madrid," Firpo said. "Honestly, the team that is most interesting to me right now is Real Betis, where I have been since I was young."
