Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Kim Min-jae as the player has now bid farewell to Napoli, according to the latest reports, via Mirror.
Despite joining the reigning Serie A champions just last year, the 26-year-old South Korean international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for several months. Kim's contract includes a £51 million release clause that eliminates the need for negotiations, and it appears likely that the Premier League giants will activate it in July.
Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Napoli insiders consider it a certainty that Kim will join United in the summer, while Corriere dello Sport goes even further, claiming that the defender will play at Old Trafford next season.
According to reports, Kim said goodbye to Napoli fans and teammates during the final Serie A match of the season against Sampdoria. The club had hoped to retain the talented South Korean, but they are unable to match the financial package offered by United.
Meetings between Kim's representatives and United's transfer officials have reportedly taken place, with an agreement said to be near. However, Kim's release clause will not come into effect until July, meaning the transfer will not be confirmed in the coming weeks. The delay in the transfer coincides with the player's obligation to undergo military training in South Korea.
Napoli have reportedly come to terms with the possibility of Kim leaving this summer. They have identified Giorgio Scalvini of Atalanta as a potential replacement for the upcoming season.
