Former United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has told Manchester United owners the Glazers they must invest this summer in order to make the Red Devils Premier League title contenders again. He believes the signing of Harry Kane from Tottenham would go a long way to making Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side competing for top spot in England again.
United fans protested in their thousands against the Glazer family on Sunday. Some supporters gained access to Old Trafford and also surrounded the Lowry Hotel which housed the players ahead of the match with Liverpool. The match was later postponed.
Speaking on Monday, Meulensteen insisted it is down to the Glazers to put their hands in their pockets and bring in the signings Solskjaer wants this summer.
“To compete and win the title you have to invest," Meulensteen told talkSPORT.
“If United would be able to bring Harry Kane in, I think they would really become Premier League title contenders. Whether that’s going to happen, we’ll have to see. We've got some really good kids coming through.
"But they need a bit of investment. If they would be able to invest and bring someone like Harry Kane in it would make a massive difference.”
