Manchester United identify two signings as scouts keep tabs on top defender

Manchester United are continuing to pursue a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. Dortmund are playing hardball with Sancho and are unwilling to drop below their £108million valuation. It appears highly likely that the transfer saga will rumble on for many weeks to come. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also identified two other positions he wants to strengthen. According to the Athletic, the Red Devils have not given up hope of signing Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish. Grealish's arrival at Old Trafford will allow Solskjaer to rotate his midfielder with Paul Pogba looking set to stay. Villa are expected to demand around £70m for Grealish so United could instead move for Bournemouth's David Brooks as he is seen as an alternative for the Cherries star, not Sancho. The Athletic add that a second deal wanted by United is a new defender and scouts are closely monitoring RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.  The 21-year-old signed a new contract last month to keep him with the beaten Champions League semi-finalists until 2023.
