Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson sends message to England teammates after squad withdrawal

Dean Henderson has told his England teammates to 'bring it home'. The goalkeeper was forced to withdraw from their Euro 2020 squad after England defeated Croatia 1-0 at Wembley. Manchester United goalkeeper Henderson was on the bench for the game with Jordan Pickford ahead of him in the pecking order in Gareth Southgate's side. But the 24-year-old trained away from his fellow shot-stoppers the lead-up to the match due to a hip injury. On Monday Henderson could only train in the gym as a result of the injury and has now pulled out of the squad as a result, with Sheffield United's Aaron Ramsdale taking his place. "I worked so hard to be in this position. I’m devastated to have to withdraw through injury!!" he tweeted, accompanied with an England flag and punch emojis. "I want to wish my teammates all the best for the up and coming games. BRING IT HOME." An FA statement said: "Henderson withdraws with a hip issue that would continue to limit his involvement in training throughout the tournament. Under UEFA regulations, squads are permitted to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds at any stage. "The Manchester United goalkeeper will now return to his club for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021/22 season."
