Manchester United and Edinson Cavani release statements after Cavani's controversial Instagram post

Manchester United newcomer Edinson Cavani has apologized for a now-deleted Instagram post which sparked a racism storm on Sunday. He is facing an FA  investigation over the controversial post following United’s 3-2 win over Southampton. Cavani came off the bench when the Red Devils were 2-0 down against Southampton and completely changed the game as he assisted Bruno Fernandes’ goal and later scored a double to secure the three points for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. After the game, the Uruguayan took to Instagram and reshared a post from a fan on his story and wrote “Gracias Negrito”, which sparked a racism storm. In a statement published on the official United website, Cavani said: "The message I posted after the match on Sunday was intended as an affectionate greeting to a friend, thanking him for his congratulations after the game. "The last thing I wanted to do was cause offence to anyone. "I am completely opposed to racism and deleted the message as soon as it was explained that it can be interpreted differently. I would like to sincerely apologise for this.” Meanwhile, United issued a statement on their own. The statement from Manchester United reads: “It is clear to us that there was absolutely no malicious intent behind Edinson’s message and he deleted it as soon as he was informed that it could be misconstrued. "Edinson has issued an apology for any unintentional offence caused. "Manchester United and all of our players are fully committed to the fight against racism." source - Express / Join us on Telegram
