Manchester City scouts identify defensive build-up the club needs despite Pep Guardiola's January transfer claim

Manchester City scouts are targeting potential defensive options for the club's, though Pep Guardiola claims he doesn't want to make any signings during the January transfer window. The Citizens have been suffering in defence this season, having some senior players out of the game. They are waiting for Aymeric Laporte's come back after a long-term absence due to injury in the new year, while Vincent Kompany left the club in summer. City expect defender Nathan Ake to rejoin Chelsea, as the £40 million agreement will allow him to return to Stamford Bridge from Bournemouth. The Blues have also targeted Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Benfica’s Ruben Dias, both at the age of 22 and considered to be as two of the best young defenders in Europe. Another option can be Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly, who is reportedly keen to leave the Serie A club.
