Manchester City exploring Lionel Messi deal with some Barca chiefs open to sale

Manchester City are judging whether they can stump up the cash to sign Lionel Messi without being in breach of Financial Fair Play regulations. Speculation has been surrounding the future of the Barcelona superstar ever since their 8-2 humiliation to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals earlier this month. Various reports suggested the 33-year-old had reached the end of his tether at Camp Nou and is now seeking a move away from the club. According to ESPN, City are ‘looking into the cost’ of reuniting him with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium. Barcelona are publicly insistent that any suitors would have to meet his £630million release clause. President Josep Bartomeu has also insisted Messi will remain the lynchpin of the team under new boss Ronald Koeman. However, it is claimed that some board members are opening to letting Messi go if he pushes for an exit.
