Luis Suarez reveals how Steven Gerrard prevented him from joining Arsenal in 2013

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has revealed a story behind his decision to reject Arsenal offer in 2013 and stay at Liverpool. Urugay international, who had his first full season for Merseyside club, got an offer from Arsene Wenger to join Gunners in summer of 2013. Suarez had a £40 m release-clause, and Arsenal added a £1 to make one of the most sarcastic offers in the history of football. But it was Steven Gerrard, who convinced El Pistolero to stay at Liverpool for one more season. And Liverpool legend had done that with an incredible way. Suarez has revealed the story. "We qualified for the UEFA Europa League but the season ended badly." Suarez told ORTO (via Goal). "I'm about to go to Arsenal, forcing myself to go, and Steven tells me: "I promise that if you stay this year you're going to take off and next year you'll go to Bayern, Barcelona, Real Madrid or whichever one you want, but stay this year because you won't be better off at Arsenal." Uruguay international scored 31 times during 2013/14 campaign, as Liverpool were close to EPL title under Brendan Rodgers. He than got offer from Barcelona and joined Catalan side in summer of 2014.
