Lucas Digne explains new Everton role under Rafael Benitez system

Lucas Digne has opened up on his new role under Rafa Benitez at Everton. Speaking on EvertonTV, Digne admitted that he had been told to stay back more often and have his focus on defense, while knowing that he can still get forward and support the attack when the opportunity arises.
"My chances to go forward depend more on the situation in the game than previously.   "The manager asked me to be more of a defender this season, to stay back a bit more and keep a better balance for the team.   "Then, sometimes, I can drive forwards, but only when it is right for the team. My first job is to defend, I am a left-back.   "If the manager asked me to defend 99 percent of the time, I would defend 99 percent of the time.   "If what you are being asked to do is for the good of the team, that is it, the end of the discussion. You do the job the manager wants.   "We want to compete high in the table and if I have to defend until the end of this season for us to reach that position – perfect."
The France international was back in the side for the Toffees and played a key role in keeping Antonio Conte's men from scoring. And the defender believes his team have been a little unlucky to concede in some games, but also admits that mistakes at the back have also proven costly.
"Any clean sheet is for all the team," Digne added.   "We work together to defend and it begins with the players up front.   "I think we were a little bit unlucky in some games. But we have also conceded some goals because of our mistakes, which makes everything difficult.
