Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus believes Timo Werner will not join Die Roten. RB Leipzig star Werner has recently told the media he will likely play abroad rather than at Bayern Munich. With this statement, the 24-year-old forward has made it clear that he will accept the deal from Liverpool or Chelsea if other alternatives do not emerge. Liverpool seem to be beating Chelsea in the race for the player. Jurgen Klopp is reportedly taking part in negotiations. According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Werner has agreed personal terms with the Merseyside club. Now everything will depend on Liverpool’s decision to pay the release clause of £52 mln or not. “Werner has now decided to publicly refrain from switching to FC Bayern. I can understand the reaction,” Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany (via LiverpoolECHO).“This back and forth harms him and his performance. Since he extended the contract in Leipzig and was able to concentrate on it, he has shown outstanding form.“Now he has let it be known that a move abroad would appeal to him more than a move to Munich. I think that the Werner and Bavaria chapter is now finally over.” he added.
