Liverpool set to allow defender to leave despite centre-back injury crisis

Liverpool are prepared to let Sepp van den Berg depart on loan in the January window. The Reds have seen each of their senior options in central defence succumb to injury this season. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are long-term absentees and Joel Matip suffering a series of minor complaints. The crisis has propelled 19-year-old Rhys Williams and Under-23 player Nat Phillips into the first-team spotlight. Van den Berg has also been named on the bench by Jurgen Klopp as centre-back cover. However, Van den Berg will be allowed to leave on loan this month, according to Goal . The report adds clubs in Belgium and Switzerland's top flights. Liverpool are keen for the Netherlands Under-19 international to pick up regular minutes during a loan spell to continue his development.
