Liverpool ready to trigger Julian Brandt release clause

Liverpool are prepared to pay Julian Brandt’s release clause this summer, according to Sports Bild. Brandt was first linked to the Reds in January 2017. The Reds scouts had been watching the player and Jurgen Klopp was a keen admirer of the German. Bayer Leverkusen, however, blocked the move and Brandt remained in Bundesliga. Now, two years later, this could be the right time for the Reds to bring him in. Brandt's contract with his club expires in 2020, but the release clause will come into effect if Leverkusen fail to qualify for the Champions League. They are currently sitting in fifth place, seven points back from fourth. Jurgen Klopp’s side are preparing to meet his £21.5m release clause, however, they will face competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus. Brandt, has scored 39 goals in his 210 appearances for the German side.
