Liverpool make contact for rival club target, told to pay £40.1m

Liverpool have made contact for Sporting left-back Nuno Mendes for the summer transfer window, according to Record. The 18-year-old has made just 9 appearances for his side, however, it should be noted that the defender is a product of the same academy system that gave to the world Luis Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani. The report claims Jurgen Klopp's side have asked about the player and were told to pay €45 million (around £40.1m) to get him. Moreover, the Reds could face a competition from Premier League rivals, Manchester United. Liverpool have already strengthen the left-back position this summer, bringing Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.
