Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Mikel Arteta has shown similarities with Jurgen Klopp during the Spaniard's first year in charge of Arsenal. Both managers were appointed with their respective clubs in mid-table positions and crying out for rapid improvement. Carragher has suggested that Arteta's reign so far has not been too dissimilar to Klopp's first year in charge of Liverpool. "Arteta has already demonstrated there is more to him than image," he told The Telegraph. "His initial impact reminded me of Jurgen Klopp joining Liverpool in 2015. Although consistency was lacking, it came together against high class teams. Arteta won his first major cup final, despite being in charge of a squad needing surgery." Arsenal the lifted the FA Cup for the 14th time at the end of last season, beating cross-city rivals Chelsea at Wembley. "The Klopp comparison does not extend into this seasonhigh-classl struggle in the bottom half," Carragher continued. "One of the reasons for that is while Klopp spent his first transfer windows at Anfield rooting out those unsuited to his ideals - and his recruiters focused on purchasing those who fit - some of the key personnel at Arsenal do not seem to be on the same page."
