Liverpool handed transfer blow as defender agreed a new deal

Liverpool have been dealt a transfer blow as Franciso Reis Ferreira agreed on a new deal with Benfica. The 21-year-old has started only four matches in the Portuguese Premier League and has been earmarked as a future star.

Liverpool have enquired about the defender’s availability for the second time in as many years. The first offer of £10m for a loan deal with an option of a permanent switch was net with a stern refusal by Benfica. According to the Mirror, the player recently signed a deal tying him to Benfica until 2023, a contract which reportedly included a €100m release clause.
