Liverpool could be set to receive an unexpected transfer boost from newly-appointed Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman. The former defender who won the Champions League with the club is set to take over from Quique Setien.
Upon confirming the impending appointment, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu reeled off a list of untouchables at the club, who they are not looking to sell this summer. Luis Suarez was left off the list but perhaps a bigger surprise was that Barcelona now appears open to keeping Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian has been out on loan at Bayern Munich with Barca desperate to get him off the books at all costs. The early indications are that Koeman may keep the former Liverpool man, who he praised during his time at Everton.
Should Koeman decide he wants to keep Coutinho, Liverpool could be set for another payday following their £142million sale in January 2018.
As part of the agreement, one of the add-ons was that if Coutinho makes 100 appearances for the club, Barcelona will have to make that payment of £17.5m to Liverpool. He currently has 74 to his name.
