Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has appeared to confirm that Xherdan Shaqiri's absence from the squad that faced Arsenal on Thursday was because he is closing in on an exit from Anfield. The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a move during the summer transfer window.
The Reds faced Arsenal in the Carabao Cup round of 16 on Thursday and lost 5-4 on penalties as the full-time ended in a goalless draw.
"Some are not involved tonight," Klopp said.
"It's the time of the year where some things happen in the background and we have to react sometimes and that's what we did."
