Lionel Messi yet again remembers the defeat to Liverpool after receiving the Best FIFA Men’s Player award

Lionel Messi received the Best FIFA Men’s Player award in Milan, Italy on September 23. After receiving the award, Messi spoke to FIFA.com and once again remembered the defeat to Jurgen Klopp's side in the Champions League. Barcelona lost 4-0 to Liverpool in the semi-finals of the 2018/19 Champions League season after having won the first leg with a 3-0 score. And the Barcelona captain revealed that it was a huge disappointment. "It was strange," said Messi when asked how he would sum up the season he had. "We were having a fantastic season as a team and then one match changed it all (Barcelona’s defeat to Liverpool in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final). "It was such a massive disappointment that we just didn’t attach any importance to the League and we didn’t prepare properly for the Copa del Rey final. That’s how big a blow it was for us. "That one game left its mark on a season that had been perfect up to then. We were so close to making another Champions League final, but it ended up being a painful campaign for us."
