Lewis Hamilton speaks out on his memories of Ayrton Senna

Five-time world Champion Lewis Hamilton says Ayrton Senna is Formula 1’s most iconic driver. 25 years ago, at the age of 34, Senna suffered a fatal crash at Imola and the post lost one of its beloved heroes. Senna won his three World Championships with McLaren in 1998, 1990 and 1991. In 1994 he joined Williams after the retirement of Alain Prost. Senna e was unhappy with the way his car performed and even predicted that a possibly fatal accident might occur.  In the race itself, Senna negotiated the high-speed Tamburello corner on the seventh lap at 191mph. He went straight on and hit a concrete wall at 145mph. With a weak heartbeat and significant blood loss, Senna was taken out of the car and taken to hospital but the time of death was later declared as the moment of impact at 2:17 pm. "I grew up watching videos of him. He's the most iconic driver we've had," said Hamilton, F1's reigning world champion. “He was the most iconic individual, a real leader and a master of his craft. [Senna] was the driver who inspired me as a kid and he's still a hero today. And he always will be," added Hamilton. “It's definitely a bit of both [personality and on-track that inspired him]. What he stood for. I didn't really know his personality so much so it was more what he stood up for, what he stood up against and what he was able to do in a car that I loved to see."
