Lewis Hamilton: “German Grand Prix was my worst day for some time”

Lewis Hamilton had a dismal race at Hockenheim. The five-time world champion finished outside the points in 11th, but for hours later was promoted to ninth after both Alfa Romeo cars picked up penalties in German GP. However, it is still Hamilton’s joint-worst race finish since Mercedes’ era of success began in 2014. The 34-year-old was on course for victory before he changed to dry tyres, he then needed a new front wing after running off the track, receiving a five-second penalty for entering the pits incorrectly and then spinning out of control in the final stages. “It’s just been a bad day, a bad weekend, and there’s not really much to say to be honest,” Hamilton told media after the race. “It was probably the worst day at the office for a very long time. You live and you learn. I don’t really know what happened today to be honest but I’m just glad it’s over and we’ve got more races up ahead so we just need to focus on regrouping and coming back stronger in the next races.” Hamilton has cleared his diary and plans to rest up to ensure he is 100 per cent fit in time for this week’s Hungarian GP. "I have cancelled everything I have for the next few days. So I'm going home," Hamilton said. "I will probably sleep the next few days and try and get over this bug. It's not really improving massively, hopefully, the next couple of days it will. I don't think to be in the car helps. Health is just so important so I'm going to make try I can try and be as healthy as I can." Max Verstappen went on to win after a race at Hockenheim.
