Leeds United confirmed that former England manager Sam Allardyce is their new manager choice for the last four matches of the season.
Allardyce will take over from Javi Gracia, who has been dismissed after winning only three games out of twelve. This marks the third change of manager for Leeds this season.
“Leeds United can confirm Javi Gracia will leave the club after 12 games in charge. We thank Javi and his team for their efforts under difficult circumstances. The remaining four games of the season will be overseen by experienced head coach Sam Allardyce,” reported the club via CITY A.M.
The Peacocks are currently in the 12th spot in the Premier League table with 30 points, sharing the same amount with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest. The main task of the new head coach will be to avoid relegation.
There is uncertainty about whether there is an agreement for Allardyce to continue working at Elland Road after the current season. The decision to extend his contract will probably depend on whether the team can avoid being relegated from the Premier League.
Allardyce's tenure as England manager was short-lived, however, as he was forced to resign just 67 days into the job, after being caught in a newspaper sting operation discussing ways to circumvent player transfer rules. His brief stint as England manager ended in controversy, with Allardyce stating that he was "deeply disappointed" to leave the role, and describing his departure as a "hugely challenging time for me personally."
