Top seed Novak Djokovic started his defence of title by beating Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets as the pair opened up the tournament on Centre Court.
The 32-year-old Serb was never in serious trouble during a 6-3 7-5 6-3 win.
The German player said: "
I think we had very tough sets. I was always first up with the break, which I couldn't hold long enough to make more pressure.
“But I think we had great rallies. Overall, he was a very strong opponent today. I think he played his service games very smoothly, and I had to work very hard for my service games. I gave everything, I fought for every ball and I think I forced Novak to play very well.”
