The Key positions Chelsea must strengthen in January according to ex-Spurs man

Former Tottenham star Darren Bent believes that Chelsea need to sign a top-quality left-back and another striker in January. Chelsea lost out at home by a single goal for the second time in their last three Premier League games at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, against Bournemouth. Bent has delivered his verdict on what the Blues need next month to boost their squad. "I think they need a left-back, a top-quality left-back," he said, speaking on Talksport. “[Ben] Chilwell if they could get him would be the one, whether or not they could get him is a different story. “But you would have to think he is the one that is earmarked to go there. The thing about it with some fans is you can’t change from game to game, if you lose 1-0 they don’t score enough goals, they need a centre forward. Or they don’t keep a clean sheet, so they need a centre-half. “I think Frank [Lampard] is quite clever about that. I think left-back and potentially a centre-back, but they have got [Antonio] Rudiger coming back. I don’t think they need too many players, but they do need adequate back up to Tammy Abraham. “[Michy] Batshuayi is hit or miss and [Olivier] Giroud is clearly surplus to requirements, and he needs to go elsewhere and play regular football, but I’m sure there will be takers for him in January. I would say a first-choice left-back who is going to play every week and maybe a back-up striker, but other than that, I don’t think they need to be buying players here, there and everywhere."
